In commemoration of the 2000th anniversary of the passing of the first Roman emperor Augustus, the Italian art book Storie di Artisti giapponesi e italiani was published with the support and cooperation of the comune of Celino San Marco in the Apulia region of Southern Italy. This educational art book is being used as a textbook in middle schools. Chosen from among the artists featured in the book to receive the Japan-Italy Artists Heroic Medal of Honor.

The Festival of Art Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Millet was held at Les Pavillons de Bercy in Paris on European Heritage Day. In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Millet, Omi-based sake brewery Ikemoto Shuzo crafted the daiginjo sake Homare no Sakazuki using Gozensui waters, of Tokugawa shogunate fame. Works of Japanese artists were featured on the rice wine’s label, which was then added to the collection of the Wine Museum of Paris. The Goddess Toyotama-hime was awarded the Gold Prize for the Beauty of the Arts and Culture of France-Japan as one of the featured works.
